The SymplyPRO Thunderbolt desktop is a half-height LTO-9 archive appliance for facilities and edit suites that need to move finished or camera-original media off spinning disk and onto durable, offline tape. It sits within arm's reach of the workstation, connecting over dual Thunderbolt 3 ports or a 12 Gb/s SAS connection for a straightforward drag-and-drop transfer into long-term, offline archive.
LTO-9 capacity and throughput
A single LTO-9 cartridge holds up to 18TB of native data, or 45TB using 2.5:1 compression, with native transfer speeds of up to 300 MB/s rising to 750 MB/s compressed — enough headroom to archive a day's rushes or a finished project in one pass.
Secure by design
AES 256-bit hardware encryption protects data at rest, and a Kensington Lock slot secures the unit itself in a shared workspace. Because the drive's LTFS file system lets a tape mount and copy like a removable drive, no dedicated backup software is required, and once a finished cartridge is removed from the drive it stays a fully offline, air-gapped copy, isolated from network-based ransomware. For facilities that prefer a managed archive workflow, the drive also works with third-party backup software such as Archiware P5, Veeam and Veritas NetBackup.
Fits any workstation
Windows and macOS systems are both supported natively, and Symply backs the drive with a 3-year advanced-replacement warranty, extendable to 5 years — cover that suits a solo edit bay as readily as a multi-seat post house, without the archive workflow itself needing to change.
