Interim version, effective 1 October 2026. We're updating our privacy documents and will replace this page later this year.
Digital Video Technologies (NZ) Limited ("DVT", "we", "us") sells, hires and supports film, television and broadcast equipment in New Zealand. This policy explains how we collect, use, share and protect personal information, and how you can see or correct the information we hold about you. We follow the Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
- Your name, company, job title, email address and phone number.
- Postal, delivery and billing addresses.
- Quotes, orders, invoices and payment records.
- Your website account login and order history, if you create an account.
- Credit account applications: company, director and guarantor details, trade references and credit check results.
- Hire and repair forms: contact details, the equipment and its serial numbers, and signatures.
- Support and repair correspondence.
- Your marketing email preferences.
- How you use our website, collected by cookies (see Cookies).
We don't see or store your full card number. Card payments on our website are processed by our payment provider, eWAY.
How we collect it
Mostly from you: when you contact us, ask for a quote, place an order, create a website account, apply for a credit account, hire equipment or send it to us for repair.
Sometimes from others:
- Manufacturers and distributors we represent may pass your enquiry to us as their New Zealand partner, and may share product registration or licence details.
- If you apply for a credit account, we may contact the trade referees you name, obtain a credit report, and search public registers such as the Companies Office.
Why we use it
- To quote, supply, deliver, hire, support and repair equipment.
- To invoice, take payment and keep our accounts.
- To assess credit account applications.
- To register products and licences, and to handle warranty claims with manufacturers.
- To send you marketing emails. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To understand how our website is used, and to measure our advertising.
Who we share it with
We share personal information only as needed for these purposes:
- Freight: our courier and freight providers (GoSweetSpot and the couriers it books, Zappy and Urgent Couriers), to deliver orders, hires and repairs, and to collect returns.
- Manufacturers: manufacturers, their distributors and service centres (for example LiveU, Fujifilm, Sony and Autodesk), for warranty and repair, product and licence registration, and support contracts. When we sell a software licence, the licensee's details go to the software company or its distributor.
- Our systems: BigCommerce (our website), eWAY (card payments), Unleashed (stock and invoicing), Xero (accounts), Google Workspace (email and documents), Mailchimp (marketing email), Dropbox (file storage) and our own business systems. They store or process information for us.
- Advisers: our accounting provider and, when needed, credit reporting agencies, insurers and professional advisers.
- Analytics and advertising: Google and Meta (see Cookies).
- Anyone we're required by law to share it with.
Storing it outside New Zealand
Many of the systems we use keep data overseas, mostly in the United States: BigCommerce, Google, Mailchimp, Dropbox, and Google and Meta for website analytics. Our payment provider, eWAY, is in Australia, and our own business systems are hosted in Singapore. If we send equipment to an overseas manufacturer for repair, your contact and fault details go with it (for example to Fujifilm in Australia).
Cookies
Our website uses cookies. Some are needed for the site to work, such as keeping you signed in and remembering your cart. We also use Google Analytics and the Meta (Facebook) pixel to see how the site is used and to measure our advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and Google offers an opt-out for Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
Keeping it safe
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access. Our website uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections. We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, including to meet tax and accounting record-keeping requirements.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it. Contact our Privacy Officer below. We'll respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days. We may need to confirm who you are first.
