The SymplyPRO 1RU Thunderbolt rack is a half-height LTO-9 archive drive built for the machine room, outfitted with one tape drive and a second bay held in reserve. It integrates over dual Thunderbolt 3 ports at up to 40 Gb/s, or a 12 Gb/s SAS SFF-8644 port to a Windows, Mac or Linux host.
Room to grow
The second bay accepts a further LTO-9 drive without retiring the enclosure, with tool-free drive service that does not require powering the system down — useful for a facility scaling its archive throughput as tape volume grows.
LTO-9 capacity and throughput
A single cartridge holds up to 18TB natively, or 45TB with 2.5:1 compression, at up to 300 MB/s native and 500 MB/s compressed — enough to archive a full day's production in one rack unit.
Built for the machine room
Rated to a 250,000-hour MTBF, 100,000-cycle MSBF and 80,000 load/unload cycles for the half-height drive, the drive is designed for continuous duty in a shared facility rack, and supports LTFS so a tape mounts and copies like a removable drive without dedicated backup software. For facilities running a managed archive workflow, it also works with third-party software such as Archiware P5 and Commvault, in a 1RU footprint that suits a single rack shelf as readily as a larger multi-drive machine room.
