The SymplyDIT Thunderbolt desktop is built for on-set and DIT data protection — a combined ingest, backup and archive system rather than a plain tape drive, for production and post pipelines that need media secured before it leaves set.
Ingest and archive in one chassis
An LTO-9 half-height tape drive sits alongside two 2.5" SSD bays, so camera media can be offloaded to SSD or copied straight to tape from the same unit. The SSD bays bridge SATA SSDs — including via an Atomos Master Caddy — to the Thunderbolt connection for a fast, all-in-one DIT workflow.
Connectivity for any cart
Two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports support daisy-chaining and device charging, and two SFF-8644 12 Gb/s SAS-3 ports let the drive connect to a non-Thunderbolt system or expand to further SAS devices. Windows, Mac and Linux systems are all supported.
Capacity across two tape generations
LTO-9 media holds up to 18TB native or 45TB with 2.5:1 compression, at up to 300 MB/s native and 500 MB/s compressed. The drive is backward compatible with LTO-8 (up to 12TB native, 30TB compressed), rated to a 250,000-hour MTBF.
