The SymplyPRO XTH Thunderbolt desktop is a hot-swap dual-drive-bay archive appliance, shipped here with a single LTO-9 half-height tape drive fitted and a second bay ready to go. It connects over Thunderbolt 3 or 12 Gb/s SAS to a desktop workstation, giving facilities a compact space-grey unit for on-site backup and archive.

Because the chassis is built for two drives, a second LTO-9 drive can be added later without powering the system down — a practical option for a facility whose archive volume outgrows a single drive over time, without retiring the original enclosure or cabling.

LTO-9 capacity and power

The fitted LTO-9 drive holds up to 18TB of data natively at up to 300 MB/s, backed by an internal auto-switching power supply that runs on 110-240V mains without a separate adapter — a practical detail for a unit that ships between regions. It also works with third-party backup software such as Archiware P5 or Veeam for facilities that prefer a managed workflow over plain drag-and-drop.

Ready to run, and to archive safely

In the box: a data cartridge and cleaning cartridge, a 2m active Thunderbolt 4 cable, the SymplyLOCK cable lock, and SymplyATOM software for macOS to manage LTFS-formatted tapes. The LTFS file system lets a tape mount and copy like a removable drive, and because a finished cartridge is fully offline once removed, it stays air-gapped from network-based ransomware.
