The Canon EOS C70 is Canon's first Cinema EOS camera with a native RF mount, pairing a Super 35mm Dual Gain Output sensor with 4K recording up to 120p in a compact body. It suits documentary, run-and-gun and compact cinema work, for solo operators and larger crews alike.
Dual Gain Output sensor and tonal range
The Super 35mm DGO sensor works with the DIGIC DV7 processor, and Canon Log 2 delivers 16+ stops of dynamic range, with Canon Log 3 at 14 stops. PQ and HLG cover HDR delivery. Super 35mm and Super 16mm (crop) sensor modes are available.
Recording formats and media
The C70 records internally to SD cards. Formats are 12-bit Cinema RAW Light LT (up to 645 Mbps), XF-AVC (MXF) in All-I or Long GOP at 4:2:2 10-bit, and MP4 in H.265/HEVC 4:2:2 10-bit or H.264 4:2:0 8-bit. Slow and fast motion reaches 4K at 120 fps and 2K (crop) at 180 fps. Two SD slots support pre-record, simultaneous, relay and mixed-codec recording, and UHS-II cards are recommended.
Built-in ND, focus and lenses
A built-in ND filter system gives 2, 4 or 6 stops, and up to 10 stops in extended mode. Dual Pixel CMOS AF with EOS iTR AF X handles subject detection and tracking. RF lenses mount natively, and EF lenses fit through the EF-EOS R adapter; the EF-EOS R 0.71x adapter keeps the full-frame angle of view on the Super 35mm sensor with the f-number one stop brighter. Stabilisation depends on the lens used.
Connections and body
Audio comes in through two mini XLR inputs and a 3.5 mm stereo jack, with HDMI Type A output, BNC timecode and USB-C alongside. There is no SDI terminal. A 3.5-inch vari-angle touchscreen handles framing and menus, with an on-screen layout for vertical shooting, and active cooling supports long 4K recording. Power is BP-A30 or BP-A60 batteries.
