The Canon EOS C400 is Canon's 6K full-frame, RF-mount cinema camera — a genuine do-everything A-camera that moves easily between narrative, documentary, commercials and live multi-camera work.
The sensor
At its core is a new 6K full-frame, back-illuminated stacked CMOS sensor paired with the DIGIC DV7 processor. A triple base ISO of 800, 3200 and 12,800 keeps noise low from full sun to available light, and Canon rates it at up to 16 stops of dynamic range. Oversampling the 6K readout gives notably clean 4K.
Recording and formats
One body covers a wide range: up to 6K60 in 12-bit Cinema RAW Light (LT/ST/HQ), oversampled 4K in 10-bit 4:2:2, and full-frame, Super35 and Super16 modes to match different lens sets. High-frame-rate work runs to 4K120 and 2K180. Internal recording uses Cinema RAW Light plus the XF-AVC, XF-AVC S and XF-HEVC S codecs, written to a CFexpress Type B card with an SD slot alongside for proxies and sub-recordings.
Autofocus and handling
For solo operators, Dual Pixel CMOS AF II with deep-learning subject detection tracks eyes, face, head and body — and select animals — across the frame. A built-in mechanical ND gives up to 10 stops of near-instant exposure control, and the short-flange RF mount keeps the body compact and gimbal-friendly, with EF and PL glass supported via adapters.
Broadcast, live and virtual production
A full set of interfaces — 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HDMI, dual mini-XLR, timecode, genlock and return video — suits both film and broadcast rigs. Ethernet and Wi-Fi allow remote control over Canon's XC protocol (with controllers like the RC-IP1000) and IP streaming over SRT/RTSP, while genlock and real-time lens metadata make it a strong fit for LED volumes and VFX and virtual-production pipelines.
