The Teradek Bolt 7 is a zero-delay wireless video system for cinema and live production. Each set pairs a transmitter and a receiver that carry 12G-SDI or HDMI video up to 4Kp60, with a separate 900 MHz data channel for camera control, monitor control, colour workflows and Ethernet.
Range and what's in the set
The 750 and 1500 sets reach up to 750 ft (228 m) and 1,500 ft (450 m), and the MAX up to 5,000 ft (1.5 km), all line of sight. The MAX also has a larger receiver, 128 x 146 x 32 mm and 750 g. Every set comes with antennas, video and power cables, a 36 W AC adapter and a Wooden Camera Ultra Arm. The MAX Standard set comes with a large case, and the MAX Deluxe sets with two V-Mount or Gold Mount battery cradles, colour bands and an XL case. Part numbers: 10-2700 (750), 10-2710 (1500), 10-2720 (MAX), 10-2720-V (MAX Deluxe, V-Mount) and 10-2720-G (MAX Deluxe, Gold Mount).
Video in and out
The transmitter takes 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0 or DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C, and loops out 12G-SDI, converting an HDMI input to SDI. The receiver outputs two 12G-SDI, HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C. Delay from transmitter to receiver is under 0.001 seconds. Two channels of embedded audio travel with the picture, and timecode and start/stop flags pass through from most cameras.
Monitoring and control
The receiver applies 33x33x33 3D LUTs with 10-bit colour, converts frame rates, scales the picture and has a spectrum analyser and a test pattern generator. Both units have a colour OLED menu with a joystick and set up over Bluetooth from the Bolt App. One transmitter can feed up to six receivers, and a MAX transmitter can also broadcast to up to 250. The link is AES-256 encrypted, and Bolt 7 works with Bolt 4K, Bolt 6 and RF-X systems.
Power and size
Each unit runs on 6 to 28 V DC through a locking 2-pin connector, and takes an optional field-installable Gold Mount or V-Mount dual battery plate. The milled aluminium transmitter is 112 x 66 x 32 mm and 400 g, and the 750 and 1500 receivers are 112 x 88 x 32 mm and 463 g.
