The Teradek Bolt 6 LT is a zero-delay wireless video system: a transmitter and a receiver that carry up to 1080p60 10-bit 4:2:2 HDR over 3G-SDI, or 4K30 over HDMI, on the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. Pick the range, the antennas and an optional battery plate.

Range and antennas

Line-of-sight range is up to 750 ft or 1,500 ft, and the MAX reaches up to 5,000 ft with an Array Antenna in Broadcast Mode, which also lifts its transmitter's limit of six receivers. External-antenna 750 sets have V (vertical) antennas, and the 1500 and MAX add H (horizontal) antennas for difficult RF. The 750 is also available with internal antennas instead.

Picture, sound and metadata

The transmitter takes 3G-SDI or HDMI, loops out 3G-SDI and converts HDMI to SDI; the receiver outputs both. Delay is under 0.001 seconds. Two channels of embedded audio travel with the picture, as do metadata, timecode and start/stop flags from most cameras. The external-antenna receiver applies 17x17x17 3D LUTs with 10-bit colour, and every receiver has a spectrum analyser and a test pattern generator.

Setting up and working together

Both units have an on-screen menu with joystick navigation, Bluetooth, the Bolt App and Bolt Manager for macOS and Windows. The AES-256 encrypted link feeds up to six receivers from one transmitter, with up to six sets in one location. Bolt 6 LT works with Bolt 4K LT and XT units, limited by the shorter range.

Power, size and what's in the set

Each unit runs on 6 to 28 V DC through a locking 2-pin connector. With external antennas and no battery plate, the transmitter is 60 x 103 x 33 mm and 206 g, and the receiver 122 x 94 x 27 mm and 292 g. Every set includes a PowerTap cable, an 18 W AC adapter, two SDI cables and lightstand and hot shoe adapters. External-antenna sets with a battery plate add colour bands, an offset transmitter mount and a 2-pin to 2-pin (Alexa) cable, plus an Antenna Array and an XL case on the 1500 and MAX.
