The NTG8 is a long shotgun microphone — 559mm (22") — built to hold onto detail and low noise across wide camera shots or when the mic can't be positioned close to the subject. It uses a true condenser, supercardioid, externally RF-biased element with high resistance to humidity and adverse weather conditions, plus extremely low handling noise and high immunity to radio-frequency interference. Off-axis sound stays natural, and the mic suits audio for video, feature film, documentary, and live broadcast work. Power comes via external phantom power, and the NTG8 ships with a windscreen, shockmount, and an aluminium storage cylinder.
