The Canon CR-X300 is a PTZ camera with an IP65-rated, dust and water-resistant body, a 1/2.3-inch type sensor and a 20x optical zoom, outputting up to 4K 30p. Canon describes it as able to work both indoors and outdoors, which makes it a fit for fixed positions that stay exposed to the weather.
A body rated for the weather
The die-cast aluminium body carries IP65 dust and water resistance, with an operating range of -15°C to +40°C (start-up from -10°C) at 90% humidity or less without condensation, and a built-in wiper keeps the view clear. Canon lists survival wind speeds of 15 m/s for normal operation, 30 m/s for possible operation and 60 m/s without destruction, and the camera weighs approximately 7.0 kg. Canon notes that performance is not guaranteed beyond the IP65 parameters or in corrosive gas or salt exposure.
Sensor, zoom and focus
A 1/2.3-inch type CMOS sensor (approximately 8.29 megapixels effective) and the DIGIC DV6 processor capture up to 4K 30P at 4:2:2 10-bit, with Enhanced Full HD output that benefits from 4K oversampling. The 20x optical zoom covers 29.3mm to 601mm (35mm equivalent, UHD) with an additional 20x digital zoom in Full HD and a 4 Axis image stabiliser. Hybrid AF combines contrast AF with phase-detection AF, and an internal 1/8 ND filter is joined by an optional 1/32 Enhanced ND mechanism that extends the range to 1/256.
Wide-range pan and tilt
Pan covers ±180° and tilt covers -40° to +215° at 0.3° to 60° per second, and Canon says simultaneous pan, tilt and zoom can run as slowly as 0.3° per second even with presets, with up to 100 presets including the home position. The camera works with the RC-IP300 controller, the Remote Camera Control Application and selected third-party options, and Auto Loop for repeated moves is a paid application.
Outputs, power and IP protocols
Outputs are 6G-SDI, HDMI and LAN, with a BNC genlock input and an RS-422 terminal but no audio input terminals. 4K can be sent over SDI or HDMI, not both at once, and the two must use the same video format. Protocols include Canon XC, RTSP/RTP, NDI|HX, RTMP/RTMPS, SRT and FreeD, and power comes from PoE++ (IEEE 802.3bt) over the LAN connector or 12V DC; PoE and PoE+ cannot be used.
