The SDI Expander 8x12G converts in both directions at once. It converts 8 independent channels of 12G-SDI to SMPTE-2110 while simultaneously converting a separate set of 8 SMPTE-2110 channels back to 12G-SDI — 16 channels of conversion in a single rack unit, so existing SDI gear plugs straight into a 100G IP system, or an existing switcher gains 8 inputs and 8 outputs on the network.

The SMPTE-2110 connections use two 100G QSFP28 Ethernet ports for full SMPTE-2022-7 protection switching, sending identical streams over separate networks and rebuilding frame perfect video from whichever RTP packet arrives first. A separate 1G NMOS control port and dual redundant AC power supplies cover reliable broadcast operation, with PTP v2 timing and NMOS IS-04 and IS-05 discovery.

SDI rates run from 1.5G to 12G with automatic HD and Ultra HD detection, level A and B auto detected on 3G-SDI inputs and user selectable on outputs. Standards cover 525i59.94 NTSC and 625i50 PAL through 720p, 1080i, 1080p and PsF to 2160p60, processed as 10-bit 4:2:2 YUV with 16 channels of embedded audio on every SDI and IP stream.

A built in 2.2 inch LCD and search dial let you scrub between inputs and monitor video, audio, standard and timecode from the front panel, with a speaker and 6.35mm headphone jack. Compliance spans SMPTE 292M, 424M and 425M through to ST2110-20, 21, 30 and 40, and the optional Blackmagic IP10 codec adds 2160p59.94 and 2160p60 as 2110 IP video.
