The RS1221+ is an 8-bay 2U rackmount NAS built on Synology's AMD Ryzen platform, aimed at space-sensitive deployments for business and IT environments. Eight drive bays natively support 3.5" SATA hard drives as well as 2.5" SATA HDDs and SSDs, driven by a 2.2 GHz AMD Ryzen V1500B quad-core processor and 4GB of DDR4 ECC RAM (expandable to 32GB), with sequential reads of up to 2315 MB/s and sequential writes of up to 1147 MB/s for data-intensive workloads. Four Gigabit Ethernet ports handle networking, alongside two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, one eSATA port, and a PCIe Gen 3.0 x8 (x4 link) slot for expansion, and an optional RX418 expansion unit adds a further four drive bays. RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD are supported, with an AES-NI hardware encryption engine. Where this model differs from the RS1221RP+ is power: a single 250W power supply, without PSU redundancy. Runs Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM).
