Sony positions the VENICE 2 8.6K Digital Motion Picture Camera as a step up for DPs, camera assistants, colourists, and VR and VFX departments working with high-resolution, filmlike capture. It pairs an interchangeable CMOS sensor block with an updated body and usability over the original VENICE.

An interchangeable 8.6K sensor block

The 8.6K sensor block shoots and records 8.6K footage at up to 30 fps, and 8.2K in either 17:9 or 16:9 aspect ratio at up to 60 fps. It raises the camera's dual-range base ISO to 800/3200 for cleaner images across a range of shooting conditions, and delivers 16 stops of dynamic range. The block is interchangeable with the 6K VENICE 2 sensor, which trades resolution for higher frame-rate recording on the same camera body.

Internal X-OCN and ProRes recording

Recording is internal, onto a high-speed on-board card, in Sony's X-OCN format or in ProRes 4444 and 422 HQ up to 4K, giving DPs and colourists a choice of raw-style or ProRes-based workflows straight off the camera without an external recorder.

A removable PL mount and native E-mount

The VENICE 2 ships with a removable PL mount supporting Cooke /i Technology lens metadata protocols, for cinema-style glass ranging from vintage to modern. Removing the PL mount reveals a Sony E-mount with electronic contacts underneath, for shooting on native E-mount lenses instead.

Integrated ND filters and an assistant-side screen

Eight integrated ND filters, plus a clear position, are built into the body for exposure control without external glass. An integrated information screen on the camera assistant's side lets the AC monitor camera settings independently of the operator's own screen.
