The Sony BURANO 8K Digital Motion Picture Camera is a compact, full-frame cine-style camera built for highly mobile, solo shooting, with in-camera stabilisation, Fast Hybrid autofocus and an easily adjustable ND filter supporting single-operator capture. Sony positions BURANO as a VENICE B or C camera, matching the VENICE 8K sensor's imagery in a smaller body.

A full-frame 8.6K sensor with in-camera stabilisation

BURANO's 8.6K CMOS sensor offers both full-frame and Super35 modes, and matches the imagery of the VENICE 8K sensor while adding Sony's autofocus technology. A feature unique to BURANO — a first in digital cine-style capture — is in-camera image stabilisation for both mount systems: 3-axis pitch, yaw and roll stabilisation for PL-mount lenses (high, low and off settings), and 5-axis pitch, yaw, roll, x and y stabilisation for E-mount lenses (active, standard and off settings).

Fast Hybrid autofocus and a variable ND filter

With Sony E-mount lenses, autofocus options include Fast Hybrid AF (phase-detection and contrast-detection AF) and Human Eye AF, for accurately tracking fast-moving subjects when operating alone. A built-in, electronically variable ND filter — a dial-type filter ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 ND, seven stops in total — lets a solo operator adjust exposure quickly as light levels change.

16 stops of dynamic range across multiple frame rates

The 8.6K sensor delivers 16 stops of dynamic range, with a dual-base ISO of 800/3200 and an exposure latitude of 6 stops over to 10 stops under 18% middle grey. Frame rates include full-frame 8.6K at up to 30 fps, full-frame cropped 6K at up to 60 fps, Super35 5.8K, and Super35 cropped 4K at up to 120 fps, recorded internally in XAVC H (H.265), X-OCN LT, XAVC-I or XAVC-L.

PL and E-mount lenses, media and connectivity

The PL mount accepts Super35 and full-frame PL lenses in spherical or anamorphic versions, with Cooke /i and ZEISS eXtended Data metadata support; the E-mount supports metadata with Sony E-mount lenses. BURANO records to dual CFexpress Type B card slots plus a utility-only SD card slot, and connects via 12G/6G/3G-SDI, 3G-SDI and HDMI outputs, 3-pin XLR audio inputs, timecode, genlock and reference in/out, a 1000BASE-T LAN port, a LANC terminal and built-in dual-band Wi-Fi.
