The Sony VENICE 2 6K Digital Motion Picture Camera shares its recording system and lens mounts with the 8.6K sensor variant, as the second sensor option in the VENICE 2 range. An interchangeable CMOS sensor block pairs with an updated body and usability over the original VENICE, positioned by Sony as a step up for DPs, camera assistants, colourists, and VR and VFX departments working with high-resolution, filmlike capture.

The original VENICE sensor, in an interchangeable block

The 6K sensor block uses the same sensor as the original VENICE camera, with a dual-base ISO of 500/2500 and 15+ stops of dynamic range. The updated VENICE 2 body lets you swap it for the 8.6K sensor to gain a higher base ISO and higher-resolution images, though the 6K sensor allows for higher frame rates in return.

Internal X-OCN and ProRes recording

Recording is internal, onto a high-speed on-board card, in Sony's X-OCN format or in ProRes 4444 and 422 HQ up to 4K, giving DPs and colourists a choice of raw-style or ProRes-based workflows straight off the camera without an external recorder.

A removable PL mount and native E-mount

The VENICE 2 ships with a removable PL mount supporting Cooke /i Technology lens metadata protocols, for cinema-style glass ranging from vintage to modern. Removing the PL mount reveals a Sony E-mount with electronic contacts underneath, for shooting on native E-mount lenses instead.

Motorised ND filters and an assistant-side screen

Eight integrated and motorised ND filters range from clear to seven stops of ND in one-stop increments, for exposure control without external glass. An integrated information screen on the camera assistant's side lets the AC monitor camera settings independently of the operator's own screen.
