Sony FX5 Full-Frame Cinema Camera with XLR Handle Unit. The FX5 is Sony’s Cinema Line full-frame ultra-compact camera, built around a 5K full-frame stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor and the BIONZ XR2 processor with integrated AI processing. This version includes the XLR-H2 handle unit, which supports two XLR/TRS inputs, a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack and up to 96 kHz/32-bit float audio across up to four channels; the same camera is available body-only as the ILME-FX5B.

The FX5 captures 16-bit scene-linear X-OCN internally, eliminating the need for an external RAW recorder — LT, C1 and C2 codecs let you balance image quality, file size and RAW workflow flexibility to suit the production, and Open Gate recording is available for X-OCN. Three base ISO settings and Dual Gain Shooting — a first for the Cinema Line FX series — keep noise controlled across varied lighting, and the LUT Library brings look-up tables from Sony and third parties for on-set monitoring and colour grading.

Sony has planned post-launch updates adding HFR shooting up to 240 fps in X-OCN, XAVC S-I recording in a 3:2 aspect ratio with full-sensor readout, an optimised user interface for vertical shooting, and a frame grab function. 5K 120 fps and 4K 240 fps X-OCN recording arrive with the V2.0 firmware, pencilled in for August 2027 or later.
