The Thunderbolt AVB GE Adapter gives a Thunderbolt-equipped Mac a Gigabit Ethernet port built for Audio Video Bridging (AVB, IEEE 802.1) networks — the connection method Avid's Pro Tools | Carbon interface uses in place of a conventional audio cable. Sonnet's adapter is Avid Qualified for Carbon, and on a Mac without built-in AVB-capable Ethernet it's the single-adapter path to that interface. Beyond Carbon, the adapter lets a Mac act as an endpoint on any AVB network, connecting to other AVB devices such as audio interfaces, mixers, plug-in processors, personal monitor stations, stage boxes, speakers and speaker processors — useful anywhere synchronised audio and video data streams matter. It runs over a 40Gbps Thunderbolt interface, is bus-powered and energy efficient, and works with both Apple M1-series and Intel Macs. Basic drivers ship as part of macOS, so there's nothing extra to install before connecting.
