The Canon RF 24-105mm f/2.8L IS USM Z is a full-frame RF-mount standard zoom that holds a constant f/2.8 maximum aperture across its 24-105mm range. Canon positions it as a hybrid lens for photo and video, bringing an iris ring, a front element that does not extend during zooming and support for an optional power zoom adapter to a general-purpose focal range.
Optics and aperture
The lens is built from 23 elements in 18 groups, including four UD elements, two GMo aspherical elements and one replica aspherical element. ASC and Super Spectra coatings are fitted to reduce ghosting and flare, a fluorine coating protects the front element, and an 11-blade circular aperture shapes out-of-focus highlights.
Iris ring and handling
Canon describes it as the first RF lens with an iris ring, giving manual aperture control with a smooth, click-free torque that suits video recording. A lock release switch locks the ring in the Auto position for stills work. A control ring and two customisable lens function buttons add further control, and because the front element is fixed the lens length stays constant while zooming, which helps maintain its centre of gravity.
Focus and stabilisation
Two Nano USM motors drive autofocus. Canon lists electronic parfocal performance while zooming and focus breathing suppression, on compatible cameras and with restrictions that may apply. Closest focus is 0.45 m at both 24mm and 105mm, with maximum magnification of 0.29x at 105mm. In-lens optical image stabilisation corrects up to 5.5 stops, and up to 8.0 stops when coordinated with an EOS R series camera with IBIS.
Power zoom and build
The optional Canon Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E2 or PZ-E2B, sold separately, attaches without special tools for motorised zoom. The lens is dust and moisture resistant, takes 82mm filters, measures 199 x 88.5 mm and weighs 1330 g.
