The Canon Legria HF G50 is a compact UHD 4K camcorder built around a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV6 image processor, with an 8-blade circular aperture for smooth out-of-focus rendering. Its 20x optical zoom lens covers a 35mm-equivalent focal range of approximately 29.3–601mm in 4K, and 5-axis image stabilisation keeps handheld shots steady at longer focal lengths.

Recording runs up to UHD 4K30 to dual SD card slots, with relay and simultaneous recording for backup or split formats, alongside slow-motion, fast-motion and interval recording in both HD and 4K. Handling is built around five assignable buttons, a joystick, a lens ring and a custom dial for direct access to camera settings, with a 3-inch touchscreen LCD and a tiltable electronic viewfinder for framing in bright or awkward positions.
