This is the white CR-N400; the black version is the CR-N400 BK. The CR-N400 is a 4K PTZ camera for remote production in broadcast, corporate and education work, designed for multi-camera environments, live studios and outside broadcast. Compared with the CR-N350, the CR-N400 adds 12G-SDI, genlock, time code and two XLR audio inputs.
4K over 12G-SDI, with HDR
A 1/2.3-type CMOS sensor and Canon's DIGIC DV7 processor produce 4K UHD up to 59.94p in 4:2:2 10-bit, carried over the 12G-SDI output. The camera offers HDR imaging, with Canon Log 3 and Wide DR gamma options. Region of Interest cropping gives three feeds up to Full HD from one camera, and Canon lists simultaneous widescreen and vertical streaming.
Zoom, focus and tracking
The 20x optical zoom lens covers 3.67 to 73.4 mm at f/1.8 to 2.8, and Advanced Zoom reaches 40x in Full HD. Autofocus detects faces and eyes and tracks the subject. Canon's Auto Tracking App RA-AT001 (Lite) comes pre-installed with the latest firmware, while the full RA-AT001 and an Auto Loop app for repeated pan, tilt and zoom moves are paid add-ons.
Studio connections
Outputs are 12G-SDI, 3G-SDI, HDMI, IP and USB-C. 3G-SDI carries up to 1920 x 1080 at 59.94P, and USB-C makes the CR-N400 a UVC camera up to Full HD 30p; there's no driver to install. The genlock BNC doubles as a sync output and a second BNC handles time code. Audio comes in through two XLR inputs with a 48 V supply and a 3.5 mm mic input, and front and rear tally lamps show when the camera is live.
Control and power
Control runs over LAN, Wi-Fi, serial or IR, with an RS-422 terminal and up to 100 presets including the home position. Streaming and control protocols are NDI|HX2, SRT, FreeD, RTP/RTSP, RTMP/RTMPS, Canon XC and Standard Communication. Power comes over PoE++ through the LAN connector or from the AC adaptor in the box, and the body measures approximately 176 x 220 x 194 mm, excluding protrusions.
