Blackmagic Design Ethernet Switch 820
The Blackmagic Ethernet Switch 820 is a low-latency Ethernet switch designed specifically for SMPTE-2110 broadcast systems. It carries eight 100G QSFP28 ports and two 10G RJ45 ports, all on the rear panel alongside the rest of your broadcast connections so cable looms stay neat, hidden and secure. Front-to-back cooling with six fans keeps it quiet enough to sit in a broadcast truck or mini rack, and two internal 100-240V AC power supplies provide redundancy.
Routing happens at the front panel. The 2.2 inch LCD monitors video, audio, video standard and timecode, and the search dial scrubs between every available input for checking sources on the spot. A 2110 IP monitor-out sender publishes the switch name, link speed and a live data-transfer graph for each port at 1080p.
Timing is handled properly for on-air work. Two redundant PTP clock Ethernet ports carry IEEE 1588-2008 PTP v2, so two separate grandmaster clocks can be connected and the network holds sync through an equipment failure, cable fault or maintenance window. A dedicated 1G NMOS control port keeps IS-04 discovery and IS-05 connection management traffic off the media network, and a separate 1G management port handles configuration and firmware updates.
The 100G ports connect naturally to the data ports on a HyperDeck ISO Recorder 100G or Blackmagic Cloud Store Ultra, or form the core of a SMPTE-2110 network around ATEM Constellation IP switchers. NMOS registers new 2110 devices as they connect and makes them available for routing — no manual address wrangling and no specialist IT knowledge needed.
