The ATEM Camera Converter extends SDI or HDMI cameras up to 28 miles (45km) from the switcher over an optical fibre link. At the camera end it converts the SDI/HDMI signal to optical for the fibre run; at the switcher end, the optical input converts back to SDI/HDMI outputs, which can be switched between the return programme feed and the camera's own input for on-site monitoring. An internal battery lets it run at remote camera positions away from mains power, and a talkback function keeps the camera operator in contact with the production base. It mounts directly to the camera via an integrated belt clip/camera mount, adds microphone inputs and two tally LEDs, and runs from 12V power. A built-in button pad gives the operator direct control, all housed in an aircraft-grade aluminium body.
