The xMac Mini Server converts a 2018-2023 Mac mini into a rack-mounted server via a Thunderbolt 3 (or later) host connection, housed in a 1U enclosure. It connects to the Mac mini's Thunderbolt 3 port for transfer rates up to 40 Gb/s, delivering 1.75 Gb/s of PCIe bandwidth to installed cards across two PCIe 2.0 slots -- suited to fibre optic connections, RAID controllers, video capture devices and similar expansion cards. A second Thunderbolt port takes USB 3.1 Gen 2 storage drives via a compatible adapter or cable, for throughput up to 10 Gb/s. Rounding out connectivity are two USB 3.1 Type-A port extensions -- one front-mounted, one rear-mounted -- for peripherals such as keyboards, mice and flash drives, an HDMI port for an external display, and an RJ45 port supporting up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet. A 150W power supply with an auxiliary PCIe power connector covers cards that need extra power, variable-speed fans manage cooling, and a ThunderLok connector locks the Thunderbolt cable in place. The enclosure works with macOS and OS X Server.
