The Canon CN8x15 IAS S/E1 is the EF-mount version of Canon's CINE-SERVO 15-120mm, the widest-angle lens in the CINE-SERVO series. It pairs an 8x zoom with a built-in 1.5x extender, and its servo drive unit comes off for cinema-style operation.
Wide angle, with extra reach
At 15mm it fits more into the shot when space is limited. The zoom runs 15-120mm at T2.95 from 15 to 90mm and T3.95 at 120mm. With the 1.5x extender in it becomes 22.5-180mm, at T4.4 to 135mm and T5.9 at 180mm, and the extender expands the image circle from Super 35 to cover 35mm full-frame sensors. Minimum focus is 0.85 m.
Servo drive unit
The detachable drive unit has three 20-pin connectors that integrate with Canon's ZSD-300D and FPD-400D and with virtual systems; one outputs 16-bit lens position data for virtual studios and VR. An onboard display sets and adjusts its digital functions. The drive unit has start/stop record and one-shot AF buttons, a rocker switch and an adjustable grip angle. Its absolute encoder means it's ready at power-on, with no initialisation. A 12-pin connection powers the drive unit and allows iris remote control. With the drive unit removed, the lens works like a traditional cinema lens with third-party cinema accessories.
EF mount communication
The EF mount supports Canon's EF mount protocol for precise metadata recording, along with 12-pin serial communication. With a compatible Cinema EOS camera, Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Dual Pixel Focus Guide can be used. Canon authorised service centres can change the mount between EF and PL.
Optics and build
Canon designed the lens to support 8K cameras in a compact body weighing approximately 3.40 kg, with an 11-blade iris. The 114 mm front diameter takes industry-standard matte boxes and follow focus units, and the focus ring has 0.8 and 0.5 pitch gears. The EF version measures approximately 186.7 × 131.7 × 294.9 mm.
