The AJA Io 4K Plus is a portable capture and output device built for professional video and audio connectivity, supporting DCI 4K and UltraHD workflows on set, in a studio, or on a desktop edit system. It handles a wide range of formats from 4K down to SD, over both SDI and HDMI, making it a flexible I/O bridge between a camera or production system and a host computer for capture, playback and monitoring.

Thunderbolt 3 connectivity

Built around Thunderbolt 3 technology, the Io 4K Plus gives a host computer significantly greater bandwidth to work with. Dual Thunderbolt 3 ports let up to six peripherals -- high-resolution displays and high-capacity storage among them -- daisy-chain off the single connection, so a desktop or mobile edit bay can add capture, display and storage without extra cabling or a hub.

Format range and image processing

DCI 4K and UHD I/O runs over 12G-SDI and HDMI 2.0, with built-in 4K/UHD to 2K/HD down conversion for mixed-resolution monitoring, proxy work or delivery. Colour handling extends to RGB 4:4:4 up to 12-bit and YCbCr 4:2:2 up to 10-bit, with exact bit-depth and chroma support depending on interface, raster and frame rate, plus HDR support for high-dynamic-range workflows and a built-in downstream keyer for inserting graphics or titles directly into the signal path.

Audio and control

Audio is embedded 16-channel on SDI and 8-channel on HDMI, with a headphone jack and level control for local monitoring at the device itself. RS-422 provides VTR control, alongside reference and LTC timecode input, so the Io 4K Plus can sit inside a wider edit or broadcast control chain rather than working in isolation.
