The Fujifilm GFX ETERNA 55 is the company's first dedicated filmmaking camera, built around the GFX 102MP CMOS II HS large-format sensor — 43.8 x 32.9 mm with a 55 mm diagonal, around 1.7 times larger than 35mm full frame — paired with the X-Processor 5. It is a large-format cinema body for crews who want that sensor size on a purpose-built recording camera.

Five scan modes across large-format and cine glass

Five image scan modes cover GF, Premista, 35mm, Anamorphic (35mm) and Super35, so the sensor can be matched to large-format GF glass, Premista cine zooms or existing Super35 lenses. The same body suits an owner-operator building on GF primes and a rental crew moving between cine zoom sets.

Recording, dynamic range and colour

Dual base ISO 800/3200 and F-Log2 / F-Log2 C give over 14 stops of dynamic range, with all 20 Film Simulations on board and up to 16 custom LUTs that can be loaded onto the camera. Recording is Apple ProRes — up to 8K at 30fps, with 4:3 open gate up to 48fps — to a primary CFexpress Type B slot, with a secondary SD slot providing H.265 backup recording, and a built-in electronic variable ND runs from ND0.6 to ND2.1.

Outputs and monitoring

12G-SDI and HDMI outputs sit alongside genlock, remote and lens connectors, with 3-inch status panels on both sides of the body. Frame.io Camera to Cloud is integrated for upload directly from the camera.

Supplied ready to shoot

The camera ships with a 2000-nit 5-inch external monitor, a PL Mount Adapter G, a control handle and a sliding rail system. Power is V-mount, with an NP-W235 battery able to remain installed as backup power while the V-mount battery is hot-swapped, in a dust- and weather-resistant magnesium alloy body of around 2.0kg.

Firmware and published roadmap

Firmware v1.10 (July 2026) refined operational stability, and Fujifilm has published the roadmap from there: in-camera MXF playback, app-based settings backup and restore and SDI/HDMI latency improvements are due within 2026, with electronic ND presets, automatic ND density adjustment, LANC support and remote control of Duvo-series lenses scheduled for firmware v1.30 or later, with availability in January 2027 or later.
