The XDCA-FX9 Extension Unit attaches to the back of the Sony PXW-FX9 camera, adding an ENG-style shoulder mount along with extra I/O and power for crews moving the FX9 from a gimbal or tripod setup into handheld, run-and-gun ENG work. A 4-pin XLR DC power input, D-Tap output and 4-pin Hirose DC output let it power accessories and other equipment off the one unit, while a V-mount battery plate lets the whole camera run from a V-mount battery rather than the FX9's own smaller cells. A wired LAN interface and two USB ports handle live streaming and file transfer, and the unit is compatible with XDCAM Air streaming playback, extending the FX9 into a more connected, broadcast-style workflow. Sony has planned firmware updates for the XDCA-FX9 that add 16-bit raw 4K/2K recording output to compatible external recorders, plus a built-in wireless audio slot for DWX/UWP wireless receivers.
